Endless Prayer?
Soul Snack 177/14 ... Prayer – the spoken joy of the wanderer or the settled, the gregarious and the hermit alike.
BUT prayer has enemies - they are activism, comfort and self-sufficiency.
The human heart knows much of power and seeks many endeavours. But these are in vain, a
mere whistling into a gale, when not reinforced by the strength of Heaven.
Prayer is releasing heaven's power into a human's soul.
There remains the divine call to unceasing prayer.
Pray continually (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
Is this instruction a mere exaggeration, a 2000 year old hyperbole, or a dalliance upon words to stir a lazy soul?
Could this weigh with an equal gravity in the Lord’s eyes to – he who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:33)
The more I age the more I longingly gaze towards the core of the Kingdom; those outrageous claims that Jesus once lived but have been diluted by time, life, learning and laziness.
To pray always must be prefaced with 'stillness', ‘solitude’ and ‘silence’ for they are prayer’s partners. Without these, he who has a heart to pray is unable to come to a regular undistracted rest.
