2 Heroes & 10 Zeroes
Circa 1500 B.C. the Israelites fled Egypt for the Promised Land, Canaan. The sons of Abraham were free, but their thoughts were not.
Caleb and Joshua were the only two of twelve spies to return from the land of giants - Canaan, with a good report.
Caleb held a disruptive faith-filled spirit. So, his brothers sought to stone him.
Caleb's spirit was to trust despite all the available outward evidence. The giants of Canaan suggested they could not be defeated. Ten other Israeli spies agreed.
But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it. (Numbers 14:24a)
Caleb's spirit of leadership would resist the tide of human opinion. He called the naysayers to faithfulness.
Naysayers achieve nothing, and lose everything.
Contrary evidence should not produce contrarian faith.
Faith stands upright for the Lord, when all around fall down against Him.
Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes and said to the entire Israelite assembly, “The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them. (Numbers 14:6-9)
Those who are capable of delivering good reports will always reach the promises the good reports hold.
It is the Calebs who will live on in faith, beyond themselves into the legacies of a better tomorrow.
The disruptive and different spirit of Caleb is honored by the Lord to this day.
Lands of milk and honey are the inheritances left by those who follow the Lord wholeheartedly.
