The Land of Tomorrow
Through the exodus the Lord had separated Israel from Egypt, false worship from true. Separation is holiness.
Israel wandered in circles for four decades, one year for every day the twelve spies had explored the promised land.
Released from slavery with the greatest natural miracle in history, God peeled back His glory unknown to any other men or nation; and still they spilled bad reports, grumbled against the Lord and His chosen leaders, further descending to rebellion. (Read this history in Numbers 14 & 16)
God's people lost Canaan as God's first people lost Eden.
For Israel faith was to be forged of failed in the wilderness. Canaan held no promise, for their faith failed. Their hearts followed their eyes as their heads turned back to Egypt
Israel looked to an overflowing basket of sweet mangoes, avocadoes, grapes and pomegranates, but saw only bitter lemons.
Canaan was to be as Eden; a land of abundance, safe from enemies and holy for worship.
Canaan was to be a land flowing with milk and honey that would escape corruption. None would be there to steal its blessings, or corrupt its holiness.
Israel was very scared (note - fear is the opposite of faith) of tomorrow for they could not grasp that their God (our God too) was already there.
The trip through the desert is the awakening (the birth) of the human spirit to the things of Heaven.
The wilderness sojourn is the path to life for every traveller of Christian faith who does not bring bad reports. It is they who chose for tomorrow and not yesterday.
The land of tomorrow is exceedingly good, it is safe and flows with milk and honey.
Caleb said to the entire Israelite assembly, “The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. If the Lord is pleased with us, He will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us". (Numbers 14:7-8)
