When Me Isn't Me!
Adam and Eve hid, and we have all used them as role models. (Brennan Manning)
Adam and Eve hid from God in Eden after that first sin.
Jacob hid under fur to steal his brother's blessing.
Jonah failed at hiding from God on and then in the Mediterranean.
Hiding from God, reality, self or others remains a most popular pass-time for all humans.
Hiding is located in the self-belief that if I am fully known it is to my disadvantage. Thus pretence becomes personal power in relationships (both vertical and horizontal relationships) -- and deceit must become the daily modus operandi.
The personal script then reads like this ... I cannot be approved for who I am but only who I present. This is fraud!
Yet as with Adam in paradise, Jacob at the Jabbok and Jonah the submariner, God still calls out to those who hide, indulge pretence and know self-fear ...
O Lord thankyou that I can't flee you or hide from you. Please free me from who I have made me to be, and become whom you have first made. AMEN
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! (1 John 3:1)
