When Gnats become Giants
Jesus' disciples were having a rough time. This He still guarantees.
When evening came, His disciples went down to the sea, got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing. When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were frightened. But He said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” Then they were glad to take Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going. (John 6:16-21)
With a jaw-dropping supernatural display Jesus approached His disciples. Yet, at His presence they are filled with fear.
It is simple for obedience to lead to fear, but this need not be so.
Fear arises from the unknown, when gnats are allowed to grow into giants.
The disciples failed to understand what was happening. (I think I would have too.)
Ignorance is a faith-buster.
Yet, the call of Christ continues to this day that each disciple lives by faith. 2000 years on this has not changed.
Faith dispels fear.
Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, 'do not fear - have faith'. (Mark 5:36)
As with yesterday's disciples so too today, deliverance will come through Jesus' presence.
