The Unfamiliar Way
A highway winds through life's valleys, climbs the ridges and paradoxically reaches to the sky. It is both pot-holed from unimaginable weather, and then sealed again by heaven itself.
It is unseen to the blind; those who do not seek God's ways.
It is not the path of an infant, or the child. But it does carry their innocence.
It is the path of choice for those weathered by earth's seasons, and battered repeatedly by storms.
It is the only way for those done with sin, who are acquainted with the teaching of righteousness, and who by constant practise have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
No-one is ever easily done with sin.
Sin is withdrawn from a man with great and painful care by the Divine syringe of suffering.
The path is traversed by those who recall the elementary teachings about Christ in a season now behind them. These men and women pant for the self-denying wealth of Christian maturity.
The entry ramp to this Highway, the Highway of Holiness is hardship. There is no earth bound exit ramp.
Those who have chosen this Highway also wear a race horse's eye-blinkers. They refuse to be dissuaded from the way of holiness.
And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness; it will be for those who walk on that Way. The unclean will not journey on it; wicked fools will not go about on it. (Isaiah 35:8)
Yes ... this highway is unfamiliar but it is not unknown.
God's unfamiliar paths take you to the best places. Don't be afraid to take them.
