The Serpent's Contours
Soul Snack 126/14 ... Ponder the serpent in Eden. Pictorially it is often portrayed as coiled around a trunk and whispering to Eve.
BUT the implication of Genesis 3 is that it had legs, who knows it may even have stood and looked Eve in the eye?
Roll the story of sin forward fourteen verses into Genesis 3:
So the Lord God said to the snake, ‘Because you have done this,‘Cursed are you above all livestock and all wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life.' (Genesis 3:14)
To this very day the serpent is forced to conform with the contours of the earth. The serpent is literally compelled to take the earth's shape with its challenges and its pain, its delights and its depths. So the snake crawls through each day as always the lowest life.
Now too consider natural man, for he crawls through life formed by the earth's contours, the ways of the serpent.
Man is no longer lifted above the world to conform to the Lord's image, the image of his design. Man walks without Divine presence; in fact he was expelled from Divine presence.
BUT it is the unnatural man, the man born of the spirit that is lifted above the earth. He is no longer being forced to mirror the earth's shape, no longer slithering as the image of earth.
The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.’ (John 3:8)
Only unnatural man can see and walk in heavenly places, for only he is not subject to the shape of the earth.
Each person who is born of the spirit can reasonably expect to be misunderstood, even a total surprise to natural man.
