Soul Snack 47/10 ... The Culinary Caveat
The cool early morning sand smarted his toes. Peter so wished now that he had not been as reckless in jumping out of the boat. His wet sandals would take until noon to dry out, if the sun became warm. Still, cold feet could not obscure his delight in sitting with Jesus again. Peter would not resist an invitation to breakfast with Jesus.
Jesus had fed Peter well repeatedly for three years. (Peter was one of Jesus' 'inner core of three'.) Peter again had taken his fill from Jesus. This breakfast was about to lead to a surprise. Jesus' command is repeated to Peter three times across this soothing dawn breeze.
"... Jesus said, 'feed my sheep.' " (Jn 21:15)
Surely Peter had only considered that this breakfast invitation was simply food for he and his friends. An opportunity to renew an old acquaintance. But Jesus intended more, He knew more, and He gave more. Of Peter, Jesus requested more too. Jesus has fed Peter, now Peter was to feed others. Peter would now move in restoration from 'shame' to 'shepherd'.
Jesus will always breakfast with me and fill me abundantly. (This is entirely dependent on my willingness to spend each morning with Him).
However, with Jesus, there is a 'culinary caveat'. His breakfasts are to be shared. Jesus feeds me His food each morning that I may share His food with others. Only those who are well fed will have an abundance to give to others.
When I breakfast with Jesus I am well fed so I may feed others too.
