The Original Sense of Belonging
The time enters each man's life when he shall begin to call upon the Lord. This has been so since the very first post Eden dawn.
Following history's first murder (the killing of Abel by his older brother Cain) Cain was hidden from the Lord's presence (Genesis 4:16), and:
at that time men began to call on the name of the Lord. (Genesis 4:26)
These men of pre-history had never known God, Eden was already behind mankind. Yet they quickly learned to call upon God because their suffering now multiplied.
As too with ancient men, flowing through the 150 Psalms (and their various authors) is the legitimate sense that 'not only do I belong to God, but He too belongs to me'. These men too call on the Lord.
- The Lord is my strength, and my song - He has become my salvation. (Psalm 118:14)
- You are my God and I will give You thanks, You are my God and I will exalt You. (Psalm 119:28)
It is from an urgency driven by suffering that mankind will tap into his original sense of belonging.
Finally they will call upon His name and then slide their hand into His palm. This is God's implanted fail-safe mechanism to every soul, His inner calling, for He has placed eternity within the hearts of all men. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
