The Memory to the Future

Soul Snack 204/10 ... A Past Future

With the solitude audibly interrupted, beady black flies buzzed around my head. They had the persistence of a self-consumed two year old.

The early morning breeze stirred both my sleeves and the leaves. The air was clear and warm, the sky azure. This spring day brooked no rival.

Memories rushed through my mind and feelings rode my spirit. In the quiet capture of the past, health can be found. To recall previous grace, rescue and blessings will always anoint the present.

Yet, to my mind, the best thing to ever recall is what Jesus has done for me. His insults, rejections, and piercings are the permanent reminders of Jesus taking what I deserve, Jesus receiving what he didn't deserve and Jesus loving me even more than he loved Himself.

I am no more worthy to be Jesus' brother than He was to be crucified.

It is in this memory alone, that I alone have a future.

Surely he took up our pain
and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God,
stricken by him, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed. (Is 53:4-5)
