The 3 things that most PLEASE and DISPLEASE GOD!

An Irish lady by the name of Ita, who died about 570, was abbess of a women's community at Killeedy, County Limerick in Ireland. She ran a school for boys. One of her students called Brendan honoured her as both his foster-mother and advisor.

Brendan once requested of his foster-mother, the 3 works that pleased God most, and the 3 works most displeasing to Him.

Ita's answer:

The 3 things that please most God are:
  • true fatih in God with a pure heart,
  • a simple life with a grateful spirit and
  • generosty inspired by charity.
The 3 things that displease most God are:
  • mouth that hates people,
  • a heart that harbours resentments,
  • and a confidence in wealth.
What a healthy attitude to life young Brendan already enjoyed. He was interested in God's pleasure already and not simply his own.
