If I was a son-sending God (a very good thing I am not), I would wrap my son in the wealthiest family of the highest class with world leading connections. His birth would be witnessed by the captains of industry and reported by the press worldwide. He would dwell at the feet of the learned, his education from the finest colleges. A palace would be his place of nurture - this wrapping would surpass any other contenders for glory.
Surely a babe wrapped in brown paper (as Jesus was) seems no gift at all?
Wrappings trap us as prisoners to gloss, so the glory of the gift may then be lost.
Beware - the value of the gift is never to be measured by the price of the wrapping.
