Starving the soul!

Soul Snack 14/10 ... Famine or feast!

Starvation is to be avoided.

The World Health Organistaion (W.H.O.) lists hunger as the biggest threat to the world's public health.

Fasting brings temporary discomfort without permanent physical results. Uninterrupted starvation must lead to death.

Yet far worse than the famine of food is the famine of God's word.

"The days are coming, declares the Sovereign LORD,
'when I will send a famine through the land—
not a famine of food or a thirst for water,
but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD.' " (Amos 8:11)

The absence of His bread (see also John 6:35) leaves my soul famished with an empty heart about to starve.

God has no longer chosen to bring a famine of His Word.  His bread is willingly and readily available.

I can starve myself  trying with all my might and still remain in sin,  or feed myself and be blessed.

This time a famine or feast will be my choice alone - it is now my call!

I can sit to feed my spirit and soul or strive and starve.
