Tire Theology

Soul Snack 194/10 ... Tire Theology

The front tires on my car I replaced just thirty minutes ago. My generous eldest son had given me his hand-me-downs  when he recently bought his new car. His tires were bald, but his wheels fabulous, so I said a sincere thanks as we swapped wheels between his car and mine before he sold his.

Have you noticed that tires wear down? Have you observed that your toothbrush wears out? Have you had your telephone lines fail? Yep, even relationships fracture.

Everything on earth is broken or breaking. Decay is never satisfied.

For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. (Roms 8:20-21)

Life can be consumed by pursuing the process of repair. The car is serviced, the doctor is frequented and the counsellor attended.

Yet in this world of breaking, there too came a God who broke.

It was from the world's failure to Him, that I now have a future from Him.

From His brokenness came my mending.

From His cross came my care.

It is in bruising that I seek repair.

It is in humble brokenness that blessings are received.

Sadly I don't ever seek the repairman until something breaks. Defeat the decay, knock on Jesus' door today.

So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. (Lk 11:9)
