Of Smokescreens and Mirrors
Soul Snack 138/11 ... Of Smokescreens and Mirrors
Does waiting cause you weeping?
Has patience penetrated your person?
Is your marrow simply in the moment?
Have you sought the Lord to act for you?
But those who wait on the LORD
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint. (Is 40:31)
I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him.” (Lam 3:24)
Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; (Ps 37:7a)
This world counsels smokescreens and mirrors, it says you control your life and are the best author of your interests ... JUST DO IT!
The Bible counsels strength and provision from patience -- you can gain without pursuing and receive without acting ... hmmm!
When promised a child Abraham faltered and took control. His control led to a family out of control. Abraham did not wait on his lord.(See the sadness of Genesis 21 for this story.) An impatient attitude aborted Abraham's peaceful future.
We are taught to spend today but pay tomorrow, as with Esau we still have not learned as we daily exchange our future for our present - this too grows from impatience. (See Genesis 25:19-34)
Wait for the Lord today to act for you tomorrow, He is all you ever need. There are no smokescreens and mirrors with waiting for the Lord - it is simply a visible faith literally expressed by being still with God.
Be still and know that I am God ... (Ps 46:10a)
Don't trade tomorrow for today.
Today's Soul Snippet:
