Homesick for heaven
Soul Snack 173/10 ... Homesick for heaven
I remember vividly as a small boy the mind-capturing notion of creatures that changed their bodies and their very identity. Tadpoles became frogs and caterpillars became butterflies.
Each person who follows Jesus will pass through a metamorphosis.
As a caterpillar becomes a butterfly, it morphs from being a creature who can only crawl to one that can really fly. The dull has become bright and the earth dweller has become a sky dweller.
Most earth dwellers are haunted by the prospect of death. This dull and enervating emotion captures too many spirits and inhibits too many souls, diluting their lives and maybe even shortening their years. Yet, within those who pursue Jesus a brightness and color ascends.
Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? (1 Cor 15:55)
The metamorphosis of a Christ pursuer is completed when the fear of death has been replaced by homesickness for heaven. It is then that Jesus' disciple is no longer an earth dweller, but a sky dweller.
