Jesus has both confronted and challenged these twelve servants who belong to Him, with the ability of heaven to use their hands.
A picnic was going to be His classroom as He fed both the seekers and the servants. The Bread of Heaven would give the bread of earth from heaven's grace. Jesus was about to feed His disciples with faith and promise (see Jn14:12) while He fed the masses as well.
Jesus casts His eyes to heaven from where all help comes. To do this is to receive the miraculous.
Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to set before the people. (Lk 9:16)
The multitudes receive bread and the disciples receive blessing. Miracles always reach farther than the eye can see.
The miracles are for the good of others and also for my good. My obedience when challenged to do the impossible will never disadvantage me; there will always remain an abundance from my obedience for me too.
They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. (Lk 9:17)
