Breakfast Distractions

None of Galilees' very prevalent sardines were in this catch - just 153 large fish, now on shore. Arguably each fish would average 16 inches long and would weigh about 2 lbs. These musht fish were always popular.

The imposing demands of contemporary fishing law expected the fish to be sorted immediately into clean and unclean fish. (Lev 11:9-12.) The fish were then to be sold while still wet.

These seven men would have been very well acquainted with such regulations.

Heavily the seven step onto the shore, unsteady from all night at sea and significant tiredness.

The clear and crisp invitation arrives. Jesus now revealing the purpose of His presence.

Jesus said to them, "Come and have breakfast." None of the disciples dared ask him, "Who are you?" They knew it was the Lord. John 21:12

Did their minds wrestle with legislation versus call, their duties conflicting with their devotions? It is a straightforward and reasonable speculation that they were tempted to 'just get on with it'. Sorting and selling this catch uppermost in their mind? The scriptures are kindly silent.

But, no-one dared argue with Jesus about the invitation. No one politely delaying His invitation. No one questioned Him.

There was no:

  • I am too tired,
  • there are still jobs to do, or
  • its too early in the day.

These seven were now crystal clear about the identity of who was greeting and inviting them to breakfast.

When Jesus interrupts your early morning activities (usually sleeping) He is inviting you to breakfast with Him. To debate with Him the time, your energy or alertness is to hinder His desire to bring you blessing.

Remember satan wants you to sleep through breakfast with Jesus. He wants to rob you of Jesus' presence and the soul food Jesus has for you that day.

Refuse to refuse brekkie with Jesus.

Breakfast with Jesus - don't start the day without it.
