Soul Snack 9/62 ... Breakfast with Jesus - J

The Return Breakfast

The Master's authoritative command lightly floated on the post dawn breeze across the beach.

Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish you have just caught."

Simon Peter climbed aboard and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. John 21:10-11

Fish from Galilee were a highly desired and marketable commodity. Quickly a catch would be transported to Magdal for preservation (salting), packing and purchase. Such a catch as this would then be distributed across the Roman Empire.

Such a 'fruitless' evening followed by such an abundant catch could well be seen as justified wages for all the previous evening's spent effort.

The export of these large and popular fish was sure to pay a handsome return.

Yet now Christ requests an unspecified amount of the catch to be brought to Him.

Without hesitation an unrestrained Peter responds obediently. He knew he was dining with Jesus on Jesus' terms not his terms. Surely too his focus on breakfast with Jesus had removed the thought of profit making. He was not rushing off to more work (although it so clearly needed to be done). He was rushing off to do Jesus' work.

When I breakfast with Jesus I learn His work is so much more important than mine.

When I breakfast with Jesus I know my abundance is only because of His kindness.

When I breakfast with Jesus I can give some of me back to Him.
