Soul Snack 9/59 ... Breakfast with Jesus - G
Professional fodder
Empty nets hauled in with weather beaten and time tortured hands gave little indication of the skills those hands knew.
These sodden nets dripped failure across arms and decks alike. These timbers more familiar with flapping, distressed fish than empty netting.
The confidence of experience failing these seven weary Galiliean fisherman. The empty nets, a clarion testimony to this. All night they had failed. All efforts fruitless. Success would only come now through external intervention. A friendly direction, a kind invitation would soon reverse their circumstance.
He called out to them, "Friends, haven't you any fish?"
"No," they answered.
He said, "Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some." When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. John 21:5-6
Surely their spirits recoiled at this stranger's presumptious direction. Surely their 'insides' screamed - why?
Yet, the humble professional can be taught by Jesus. He who made the fish, still knows where they are. There is no professional who can outperform Jesus in their own area of expertise.
This exceptional near-dawn encounter must have challenged both their energy, expertise and 'better judgements'.
Obedience to His well meaning calls (and Jesus only ever intends 'well' for His followers) will receive His prosperity and His blessings.
To breakfast with Jesus is to receive and trust His directions in the life I am already good at.
