Soul Snack 9/3 ... Promise Power
Can God ever make a promise out of self-interest?
Is there any personal gain for God in gracious giving? Is He ever motivated out of indulgence?
'The days are coming,' declares the LORD, 'when I will fulfill the gracious promise I made to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah.' Jer 33:14
God's promises are not an attempt at repayment nor are they a bribe released from heaven for my self-serving. They are not manipulative or hollow.
Their seed is ONLY His goodwill towards to me.
It is His grace that is good for me this day. All my goodness is from His throne. There is no talent, skill or generosity that I can claim is from me.
If only I could see me as I truly am; how much more thankful then could I become? How much more desiring then would I become to flee sin?
The more I am able to understand my true nature, the more I'll be able to rest in His freely given goodness to me.
Be at rest once more, O my soul,
for the LORD has been good to you. Ps 116:7
The power of His gracious promises is that it reveals my utter powerlessness. Only then may I receive rest in Him.
