Soul Snack 8/96 ... Self Discovery
Brash, bold, and foolishly intrepid is the mouth and heart of the self-ignorant.
A fool declares allegiance without counting (or even knowing) the cost. A brash man speaks words of devotion before understanding their depth. The self-ignorant consider their abilities and their intentions more highly than they ought.
Yet these very words describe the nature and character exactly f the very first followers of Jesus. The self-ignorant who are too quick to speak. Those who would find it far easier to claim devotion than to give it.
But Peter declared, "Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you." And all the other disciples said the same. Mt 26:35
One day (soon?) Jesus will want to 'cash in' our protestations of devotion too. His season for our discontent, for our self discovery will surely arise.
The questioning knock on the door, the call to move, or public opportunity to declare our devotion is guaranteed.
In our dark hours we learn our devotion best. You may not yet have any idea how you will respond - He does!
