Soul Snack 8/80 ... 2 Keys 2 Self
Residing in gained self understanding is a pleasant future and a now wisely guarded past.
The hardest hill to climb can be the hill of self-understanding. Littering the path are the pools of pride, the granite of arrogance or the crumbling shale of self-ignorance. All these obstacles are significant opportunity to fail the climb, to not reach the apex, to fail to see me as I really am.
God has already seen me as I am. His vantage point is well above my hill of self-understanding. He can see me so much more clearly. His assessment always incisively accurate.
If I can audit my thoughts, check on the thoughts that consume me, the nearer I become to self understanding.
Here is a really, really short check list to keys of self understanding:
KEY 1 ... my greatest pride is actually my greatest weakness,
For in his own eyes he flatters himself too much to detect or hate his sin. Psalm 36:2
The things I flatter myself most on can really be my biggest faults.KEY 2 ... my single most consistent fault I find in others may well be mine,
Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. Matt 7:3-5
My ability to find another's faults obscures my inability to find mine
To humbly pray these points through will unlock heaven to me. I will have a sublime view now to enjoy atop the hill of self understanding.
