Soul Snack 8/74 ... Christ's Candles
Constrained in giving, equipped for receiving! Surely this is the hidden motto of the '...it's all about the me' generation.
From birth, we are well equipped to receive. Being equipped for giving must then becomes an external supernatural initiative in all our lives.
Consider briefly these two common themes about candles:
- candles begin to shine as soon as they are lit, and
- the candle loses nothing lighting another. (In fact, it gains a companion!)
You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Matt 5:14-16
Unlike people, candles are first equipped for giving, once lit they give and will ask for no more, and seek nothing in return.
Today I can be a candle for Christ, I can light another.
