Soul Snack 8/68 ... Owning Me!

The land "For Sale" sign has "sold" clearly and freshly emblazoned on it. Ownership has changed. Adjacent is another block with a horizontal old paling nailed to a tree. "No Trespassing" is the clear claim of ownership.

Nailed randomly on a post across the road is a sign, 'Nunyara', the properties name and the owners surname.

The boundaries of possession map all our lives. The possessive desires of the human heart so clearly delineated that they may not be lost. The fence line, the title deeds, even the car keys express who currently has 'rights' to this property.

Property the focus of possessiveness.

Ownership is part of life's battlefield that all will march upon with significantly varying degrees of success.

God has clearly nailed His ownership of all to The Cross. But what does this mean for me?

Accepting His ownership of me:

  • liberates me from my jealousies,ambitions and strivings,
  • releases me from pride that I may enjoy humility,
  • moves me from the place of foolish ignorance, to wise information,
  • transports me from living in the present, to living for the eternal,
  • replaces striving and wanting with contentment and satisfaction,
  • promotes 'devotion' and not just 'doing',
  • is seeking His guidance and not my will and
  • is listening for His voice and not just obeying mine.
Accepting His ownership of me now is eternally healthy, it is simply recognizing reality early.

I know, O LORD, that a man's life is not his own;
it is not for man to direct his steps. Jer 10:23
