Soul Snack 8/214 ... Captivity

My joy - you are my prison,
You seduce me, I seek you,
There is little relief to your drawing,
There is no release from your hold.

I am barred in by my desires,
I am captive to what I want,
I am patrolled and pursued,
By those who want from me.

Daily they feed my desires,
Yet they have no care for me,
They care nothing for my well being,
They gain joy from my slavery.

They too are captive,
Their bondage even greater than mine.
Their own captivity is fed by my bondage,
Their own jail bolted on them too.

Oblivious to their bondage,
Ignorant to their own captors,
Daily their captivity deepens,
Daily they descend further into their cells.

Cells that will never be prised open,
Doors locked tight without keys.
A prison on indulgence,
Accumulation without escape.

I see mine, I see theirs,
I am now far better off,
I know my captivity, they don't;
For, in knowing there is release.

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,
"Never will I leave you;  never will I forsake you."  Hebs 13:5
