Soul Snack 8/169 ... Jailhouse Block!

Two swarthy middle eastern men ignore the oppressive heat, and the swirling dust they stand within. Wafts of heated air rise unnoticed from this dirty rock laden track. The oppression on their inside so stronger than the one surrounding them. These enemies glare venom, still unsure who will make the first move.

Into this tension, across the inner turmoil, Jesus arrives, gently directing the one who belongs to Him.

"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Matt 5:38-41

The quiet words of the spirit of Jesus now echoed above all 'the din of war.' This evil man he would no longer resist, he knew humility towards this enemy was honour towards Jesus. He knew this response was so superior to the honour his fists would attempt to bring.

Releasing his clenched fists, pink quickly returned to his knuckles. Flaming eyes now doused, he had chosen to yield to his enemy. This cell of ill will is now blocked, he would not enter it.

Humility is permitting your enemy to be your victor. It releases the pride of war as proof of worship.
