Soul Snack 8/13 ... The Root of Greatness ... A
"And they were all amazed at the greatness of God" Luke 9:43
A young boy convulsed uncontrollably. Dirt ingrained the very fabric of his clothing. Bruised, battered and bleeding he is watched by all. Another episode of torment throws this child into ancient middle eastern soil. Impotent disciples (unable to deliver the boy) and a frustrated Jesus gather around. This spectacle both captivating and catastrophic.
In a heartbeat Jesus rebukes the evil spirit and delivers this young boy. In an instant this young boy is set free.
Again all had witnessed this God-man at work. This young boy now enjoyed untrammelled freedom. Greatness delivers. Greatness had brought glory to God not the deliverer.
The disciples had failed, (their faith shallow), Jesus couldn't. Jesus had expected the active faith of his followers to be sufficient to the task. (v41)
Faith is the root of greatness:
I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. Jn 14:12
Available to all who would exercise their God given faith are results that Jesus promises will even supercede His. This is not a lie it is the truth.
The impossible is available to those who rely (have faith) on the eternal.
