Soul Snack 8/110 ... Mind Matters - C
He who controls the mind, controls the person. This axiom I must understand.
My mind sadly is so often like water. It is just natural to 'flow down'. The 'tapes' I permit my mind to play will either build me and my relationships, or destroy me and my relationships. (Remember: satan is intent on destroying me. Also see Jn 8:44)
As with any watercourse, my mind's flow can be controlled when I understand where it goes.
Ask either of these simple questions:
- does my mind produce God honouring thoughts',
- what thoughts capture me as I lie awaiting sleep each night?
- it enjoys ill will to another,
- it retains resentment to another,
- it criticizes, condemns or finds faults,
- it refuses to release forgiveness,
- it waters roots of bitterness.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Phil 4:8
Above, the Apostle Paul has given wise counsel to the Philippians. To think as he counsels is to imprison poor thinking and guard my mind. This then places an invisible, impenetrable hedge around my mind. My mind is then free from the attacks of the evil one. I have replaced bad thoughts with good ones.
