Soul Snack 8/106 ... God's Tracks - B

The Israelites were not happy campers. Sand, sunshine and simple provision was not well received. They grumbled in their new found freedom. Ingratitude, not thanks, so sadly defined their desert experience. Even their diversion was for their benefit, they just could not see this. They preferred to return to bondage. They understood God's path so poorly.

As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the LORD. They said to Moses, "Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? Didn't we say to you in Egypt, 'Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians'? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!" Exodus 14:10-12

Looking for fault in God's leadings rather than favour, too may delineate our travel through this life,

When I recognise a diversion I'll grow. When I live a distraction I'll slow. The Israelites 'slowed' so much they actually missed God's promise and presence. (Canaan.)

Recognising God's diversions in my life.

  • He will divert me from sin to sanctity.
  • He will divert me in my hopelessness to holiness.
  • He will divert me from lovelessness to loving.
  • He will divert me from greed to generosity.
  • He will divert me from fault-finding to grace.
  • He will divert me from me to Him.

Recognising distractions in my life,

  • I am distracted when I think more about accumulating for me than activity for Him.
  • I am distracted when I seek my satisfaction and well being in His absence.
  • I am distracted when my soul hungers for the temporal, while my spirit thirsts for the eternal.
  • I am distracted when my carnal desires crucify yet again Christ's work in me.
  • I am distracted when justice, truth, mercy, and righteousness I can't define.
God's freedom is to divert me from my path of inescapable eternal death to eternally desirable delight in His presence.
