The Esau Enigma
SOUL SNACK 109/11 ... The Esau Enigma
“See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son." (Hebs 12:16)
Seduction is the seed of sin.
The seduction that will capture the present, also strikes mortality into a good eternal future. The lure of the present encircles the weak-willed and the ignorant. The scent of immediacy rigorously stirs their passions. A prosperous future can be easily exchanged for a fleeting present.
Charged by indulgent desire Esau's resistance was readily defeated. A grossly undervalued future he has exchanged for a valueless meal. To do this is godless!
Buy now, pay later. This is the constant contemporary invitation. The newest pleasure enhancing product is the inducement. Trading on our covetousness is delivered daily with a surgical precision. We then willingly exchange our future for a present that persistently becomes our past.
I might call this behaviour foolish. God calls it - godless.
Esau is remembered eternally for his ill judgement. Yet, we too consistently exercise the same thinking. Why do we still do this? Surely this is The Esau Enigma.
