Living with Problems

Soul Snack 117 ... Living with problems

"When He had said this, he showed them His hands and His feet." Lk 24:40

"Fools rush in where angels fear to tread," crooned Elvis. It is often prudent to err on the side of caution. But, does prudence always bring health?

His presence insufficient and His voice unrecognised. These disciples were not rushing to recognise Him. Yet the recognition imperative is still there. His disciples must apprehend! Surely visible evidence will suffice to these 'cautious' disciples.

What belief would His appearance bring? What testimony to His 'resurrection case' would His hands and feet yield?

These hands, these feet now living, They are the visible witness to the terror, torture and torment He has been released from - the travail of soul found in the cry of the forsaken; the infinite depth of love revealed in the cry of forgiveness; the unflinching obedience witnessed by all bystanders. This is what His hands and feet speak of.

The depth of my sin and the desperation of my need so indelibly imprinted on His nail pierced hands and feet.

These slow disciples will recognise the risen Jesus. These scarlet hands and feet say to all who would recognise Him that there is nothing ever in my power to repay Him. Nor is there anything in any pain or problems that I endure which is greater than what He has received for me. No wonder He can share my sorrows. No wonder He too can say 'been there, done that'! No wonder He truly is my understanding saviour to whom I can take absolutely everything. This He invites me to do. (Mt 11:28-30)
