Soul Snack 45/10 ... The Breakfast Blessing
When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?"
"Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that I love you."
Jesus said, "Feed my lambs". (Jn 21:15)
The friendly banter of tired fishermen quickly quieted as Jesus' thoughtful question interrupted this post dawn 'party'.
Littering the recently sunlit beach now were white fish bones. The bread crumbs were completely unnoticed.
But Jesus was both heard and noticed.
Peter had shown an extraordinary display of energy in first leaping out of the boat to Jesus (v7) and then again returning to the boat for Jesus (v11). Would this same surprising display of energy by displayed with him 'leaping' into a now most difficult conversation with Jesus?
Surely ravaged by the guilt of his repeated denials (Jn 18:15-27), he had no choice but to respond. Six others sat nearby, eager for Peter's response. Their stomachs were now full, sleep encroache, indeed commanded, yet they were still eager for his reply.
Jesus had fed Peter's body, now He would feed Peter's soul and spirit.
As Peter breakfasted with Jesus he is reminded that there is a higher purpose to life than his own well being.
When I breakfast with Jesus I receive His reminders, His restorations and His call to go beyond myself. This then is my breakfast blessing.
