"'Christ" was never His surname!
John's gospel is loaded with reason, activity and purpose from a pre-dawn time zone.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. (John 1:1-3)
In his gospel John draws apart curtains, cosmic curtains to showcase Heaven's only Son, Jesus the Christ.
John the apostle establishes not only HOW but WHY we must get Jesus correct. The imperative rides all men to be absolutely correct about the person and work of Jesus the Christ. "Christ" was never Jesus' surname, it means "the anointed one". "Christ" is a title, and is also associated with "Messiah".
Jesus is the verbal creative Word, contained in flesh. He arrived on planet earth for a cameo appearance to rescue mankind. This John unmistakenly develops. He identifies Jesus such that there can be no confusion as to the "anointed one". This is so clear that no imposter can survive when compared to our Lord. To this end John records Jesus saying:
So Jesus said to them '... the Son cannot do anything of His own accord, but only what He sees the Father doing. For whatever He sees the Father doing the Son does likewise.' (John 5:19) ... I and the Father are one. (John 10:30)
The apostle John writes that dads are known by their boys. (see John 5:18-47)
