My return cry to Jesus.
Soul Snack 84/10 ... The Cry of the Chosen One
Canopied under the tear laden eyes of heaven, Jesus forgives the malevolently ignorant.
Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." (Lk 23:34a)
A cross had been used since 6th century BC as a painful tool of execution. This gruesome practice continued until Emperor Constantine, in AD 337, abolished such executions, out of deference for Jesus.
Such brutality, that battered Jesus' body and shattered His soul, still did not rule His human spirit.
With nails searingly fresh in His palms and splinters gouging the whip-torn flesh of His back, He steadfastly refused to release grace.
The hatred induced humiliation of the masses and this spineless-driven crucifixion would never impede His cry of grace.
As this unrestrained injustice intensified, greed simply became a game of chance.
And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. (Lk 23:34b)
While being gambled over, this Chosen One chose His words with eternal care and love.
Two millennia ago, Jesus knew the ignorant sinner still needed His forgiveness. Two millennia ago, He knew the need would be vastly multiplied today.
The cry of the chosen one can also be my cry back to Him today:
"Forgive me Jesus for I too do not know what I have done." AMEN
