Maturing with the Messiah

Soul Snack 203/10 ... Dabbling in the Divine

I recall the waters edge at Palm Beach, a sheltered cove at the mouth of a much larger basin that spilled into the ocean. We would take our young family there with persistent regularity.

This pleasant, secret place away from the maddening winds was the perfect play place for our toddlers.

Tiny feet, lapped by tiny ripples, delivered unadulterated squeals of delight. Yet should the crest of a rolling swell reach their knees, eyes became pained, and delight turned to fear.

The babes of Christ, the toddlers of trust, never quite move out of the shallows of their knees to dive into the depths of pounding waves.

It's safe to wade in the Word, secure a Sunday morning pew at the local church and sip coffee with a needy brother.

But where has the call of Him to live by faith, hate parents and to sleep without pillows gone?

Where is the heart full of obedience and the feet of no-compromise?

Who really really believes that the place of riches is Heaven and not the bank?

Who lives like the Lord is their provider and not the lottery that is themselves?

Whose heart is so captured by Heaven that they can just be still today, all day?

Dabbling in the divine is no more spiritual health, than a toddler is a swimmer when washed by waist deep water.

Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. (Hebs 6:1-2)
