Leaving Self-Control Behind!

Soul Snack 9/79 ... Beach Banquet

Motionless supertankers parked patiently on this absolutely gorgeous Pacific horizon. The lightly wind-blown sand stirring the few would-be sunbathers.

I too was parked, but almost motionless. Although my time was not for patience but for consumption. My lunch order had now arrived.

I had shown considerable, even super-human self restraint (I told my gullible self) in ordering a focaccia and not a hamburger. The latter being so more preferable to my palate but not for my (miniscule) paunch.

In my deeply humble thoughts about my extraordinarily powerful self-control, I mused would there ever be a time when I did not have to show self-restraint? (In fact, I then teased myself afresh with the 3 major food groups - pizza, do-nuts and coke.)

Well the answer is thankfully  a resounding - 'yes'!

Self restraint will not be an issue for me (or anyone else for that matter) when I am in heaven. This is not because heaven is the place of the ultimate and completely unrestained indulgence but because Heaven is the place where I will no longer look to me. (Remember - there are no mirrors in heaven?)

In heaven I will only ever be looking to Another!

One day I can leave my self-control behind, I am sure some one else can use it.

Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing:
"To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise and honor and glory and power,
for ever and ever!"   Rev 5:13
