Kissing Jesus' Feet
Soul Snack 54/14 ... Jesus enjoyed rattling religion by turning its tables.
In an eye-popping interchange for any observer, Jesus simultaneously humbled the proud and elevated the humble as He forgave a notorious woman. This gift confronted the self-righteous Pharisee present. (See Luke 7:36-50)
Jesus' monstrous love for the lost, and disdain for the law flowed through all His encounters.
How many of us are the sinful woman?
How many of us are the Pharisee?
To the sorrowful sinner who sees their sins piled high to heaven, who will weep at Jesus' feet and kiss them with tears - Jesus becomes an advocate.
To the Pharisee who sees the other's sin piled to heaven, Jesus pleads - mercy triumphs over judgement.
Jesus' feet are never kissed in criticism, but always kissed by confession and care.
Then he turned towards the woman and said to Simon, ‘Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven – as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.’ (Luke 7:44-47)
