To the repeat offender
Soul Snack 44/12 ... To the repeat offender
Sin is hypocrisy to the Christian, repeated sin is relentless hypocrisy.
Here is a usual pattern - I sin, I am sorrowful, I turn from sin, I am tempted and I sin again. Hypocrisy is the recurrent theme through this pattern
My sin is as prodigious as I am a prodigal.
The Parable of the Prodigal now becomes greatly heartening (see Luke 15:11-32) to the likes of me (a sinner) who has nothing to plead except grace.
The Parable of the Prodigal assails my soul's assailants bellowing at me that my hypocrisy, my repetitious sinfulness and my undiluted selfishness remains as no impediment to receiving my Father's - The Father's love.
His love for me is always as present as I am to return to it, for the time of feasting and the joy of unchecked celebration always awaits the returning prodigal.
To me my sins appear endless but my Father's love truly is. His love is as endless as He is eternal.
For the repeat offender there is still repeat forgiveness.
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace (Eph 1:7)
