The Guitar God
Soul Snack 136/12 ... The Guitar God
Have you ever witnessed a frustrated guitarist preceding a performance? Sweat beading, under breath mutterings and deeply furrowed brows may indicate a guitar stubbornly refusing good tune.
A musical anecdote (I am advised) taught that a Jimi Hendrix guitar deftly sung by the maestro's fingers in perfect pitch could be picked up immediately after his performance and be out-of-tune. Apparently even the manner a guitar is played can cause it to lose tune.
When guitars are played strings stretch and consequently the state of tune is lost - BUT there are also environmental factors. Rusty, oxidised or dirty old strings will not hold a tune well. Humidity and temperature are also significant variables; for instance a guitar travelling in a warm car and then played in a cold church hall can well lose its dulcet qualities.
Christians too loose tune, how life is played, the quality of their efforts or the temperature that surrounds them (the friends they choose etc) will drive their energies, desires and productiveness... all these will create the spiritual notes of a discordant or tuneful life.
Life is a musical instrument - our hearts and our living can go out of tune if we don't take time to say your will be done. The tunefulness of each Christian's life is dependent upon the good-will of a higher owner, just as a guitar's is.
A tuneful life is mated to the Father's purpose, His will and to His glory.
This life is not all there is and my desires do not usually reflect where eternal life is found.
A life in tune with heaven is a life I want to play and many will want to hear.
To know the will of God is our greatest knowledge BUT to do the will of God is our greatest achievement. - George W. Truett
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done... (Matt 6:9-10)
