Heart Clarification
Soul Snack 57/12 ... Heart Clarification
The unexpected gift of fresh fish and warm bread, the welcome and surprise meeting with their master was about to change their world (and ours too).
This unprecedented encounter was a messianic set-up - the Messiah had provided the breakfast for now so He could provide for what matters eternally.
A clueless Peter was confronted by Jesus to truly reveal the higher purpose of this breakfast; on Peter's plate was his recent past. A past that needed to be disposed of if Peter was ever to go forward for Jesus again.
Peter's previous rejection of Jesus and his blatant lies had quickly destroyed Jesus' preferred future for him. Peter had simply returned to fish fishing, not fishing for men. So with a most confronting directness Jesus questioned Peter three times.
"Do You truly love me..." was the conduit of Jesus' confrontation while repetition was the cause of Peter's distress.
The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?"
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." (John 21:17)
Peter had responded correctly to Jesus' breakfast invitation. His heart was clear and open to all. His heart was restored.
Not only will Christ invite you to a comfort filled breakfast each morning, but early each day really can be a confrontation for His own - to those who claim they love Him most.
Your devotion is demonstrated repeatedly in how you respond to Him early in the day - does He get the first appointment?
At breakfast each morning He will clarify your heart to you too.
Breakfast each day with Jesus - don't leave home without it.
