Is Psalm 34:8 true? Is it real?#
When checking a claim of one sort or another, an earlier generation asked, 'Is it true?'. Today’s generation questions, 'Is it real?'
Psalm 34 raises both questions. And it points to a Yes answer for both.
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! (Psalm 34:8)
The linchpin to Psalm 34 is verse 8.
King David (the author) was familiar with horror, betrayal and sin in his life. He lived a life of war. But, still he testified that the LORD is true – genuine, and reliable!
Psalm 34 is as if he pens a protest against all the Israelite naysayers to God, as well as buttressing all Israel's devotees.
He knows from first-hand experience that:
- the LORD answers... He saves... He protects... He provides... He hears... And He redeems. In the New Testament His salvation is donated to mankind in the costliest of ways.
He also testifies that the LORD is real – no fake news from David's palace!
- The LORD answered me... He delivered me... I will extol the LORD... My soul will boast in the LORD... Come, listen to me. I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
There’s lots packed into Psalm 34, to encourage you, if you believe.
Take King David's challenge to taste the Lord, it is as relevant and real today as it was 3000 years ago. The invitation has not weakened or faded.
Do the verse 8 thing and find out for yourself! Because:
... those who seek the Lord lack no good thing. (Psalm 34:10b)
