Idle Idols
Warmly his eyes smiled. Gentle fingers curled around a golden miniature Buddha. A captured heart and focussed mind knelt with great care before this slight statue. Incense lit, the room darkened, and a worshipful mood created. His heart's intention being to secure his eternity.
This ritual was repeated with an honorable religious persistence; yet zeal cannot engage statues. Molten shaped metal has a mouth that can't speak, unseeing eyes that are void of response, and ears deaf to worship.
There is no relationship when a creator worships his creation.
Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit a grace that could be theirs. (Jonah 2:8)
Being captivated by one treasure can obscure an even greater treasure!
When my own creations grasp my devotion my true Creator is omitted. His grace to me I have forfeited, it falls away.
However, when creation worships the Creator - relationship is present. Grace, truth and goodness become immediately available.
From the fullness of His grace we have all received one blessing after another... grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. (John 1: 16-17)
The Lord's desire is not that I would forfeit His grace, but rather find my forever in it alone.
