I Will Pass This Way But Once
"Set your hope fully on the grace that is to be given to you when Jesus Christ is revealed". (1 Peter 1:13)
The apostle Peter has now (without exception) cleansed all competing hopes from the soul of those who would too shout ... YES, ME TOO - my hope is fully set upon grace.
Waxing and waning through our days (according to our moods) is the falsehood:
what I want for me must be best for me.
Indulgence is its persistent bleat and beat.
Without redemption life is as hollow as it is short; it is as empty as its days are certain to be troubled.
Life is consumed by the perishable when there is no knowledge of the imperishable.
There is no redemption through indulgence, accumulation or self-glory - only death.
It is the redeemed who have laid hold of tomorrow. They have released today's strivings and takings; they have tasted the imperishable.
It those who are becoming dead to themselves who are the true strangers upon this earth. They no longer seek the familiar ways of the world, rather choosing familiarity with the pleasing ways of God.
Your life is as much a message to the Lord as it is to the world.
There exists no place upon planet earth for the dead save a grave and a memory; so too the redeemed. BUT:
the redeemed have exchanged the perishable for the imperishable. They know not to be distracted in the world and then lost forever, for they will only pass this way but once.
