2 Amazing Tales of Buried Treasure#
Capturing children or adults minds alike for countless centuries are the tales of buried treasures.
A story is told of William Randolph Hearst (1863-1951), the multi-millionaire, famous newspaperman and collector. He was particularly noted for an absolute mansion filled with the world's masterpieces of art. One day he learned of a painting that was apparently 'above' many of his others and sought to buy it. He instructed his 'scouts' to search where this magnificent art work was for sale, and buy it. After an unusually extended period of time, one of his scouts returned and reported back to him. With a good degree of excitement he confirmed this extravagant artwork was now located.
BUY IT! commanded Hearst.
Quickly the scout replied, but sir - it is already yours. It is in buried in a crate at one of your warehouses.
It is quite amazing to imagine this scene of Hearst and his scout. How could Hearst own such treasure and fail to display it, put it to use? How could he lose track of such treasure?
I wonder if many believer's in Christ are similar?
A similar story is told of a clever Christian lady who spent a very restless night. She over nighted in a hotel preceding a conference where she was to be the keynote speaker, worry overcame her drowning all rest. She slept very little. Her name is Madge Harrah. Sometime later she too would realise as with Hearst, that she already held the buried treasure that she thumped her pillow for.
She thought more deeply and most sadly decided it was also locked up in some anonymous and dusty warehouse within. It was at this point her resolve strengthened to retrieve her faith out of storage, polish it up, and put it to good use. She prayed:
heavenly Father, today and every day I put my faith afresh in You. Amen#
For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith." (Romans 1:17)
