Hounding Righteousness
There are those who refrain from veering to the left or to the right. They are wise, they fear God and aim for heaven.
Isaiah writes in chapter 51 to those who would pursue righteousness, to the men and women who wear blinkers as they head to Jerusalem. These are the ones who would not be dissuaded from following righteousness today, nor the goal of reaching their eternal home tomorrow.
The Lord has determined and clearly sees this subset of humanity that choose to hound righteousness. They have no wish to continue in wickedness or sit with the sons and daughters of Babylon. Isaiah further explains those who chase righteousness are the seekers of the good Lord. Their very first step forward is to stop and listen to God.
Isaiah counsels the pursuer of righteousness:
- to look to the faithful ones in their heritage so they may stand doggedly strong, and
- to be assured of His presence.
MY salvation will last forever, and MY righteousness will never fail. (Isaiah 51:6c, 8c)
Pursuers of righteousness are refusing to trade their perfect tomorrow for an indulgent today.
