God meets His warriors with affection
The louder the call, the harder the task.
After a long time, in the third year, the word of the Lord came to Elijah: “Go and present yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the land.” So Elijah went to present himself to King Ahab. (1 Kings 18:1-2a)
God took Elijah into action. First to Ahab, then to Mt. Carmel where 'war broke out'.
The conviction of correct belief buoyed by an equal conviction of 'calling' are mighty powerful motives to enter His battles. These Elijah held in bucket loads before challenging four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal, and as if that wasn't sufficient another four hundred prophets of Asherah also turned up.
The difficulty of the task God gives you does not dispel His call, rather this confirms it.
Elijah entered the battle. He fought with no human support, fortified by obedience. God used only one true prophet to destroy a host of nameless, faceless false prophets. On earth wickedness is always finite. Evil lives under a 'use-by' date.
Elijah then raced away on foot with a 'supernatural supercharge' ... The power of the Lord came upon Elijah (1 Kings 18:46a)
After the 'biggest single handed victory' in all history Elijah's would be assassins (Ahab and Jezebel) promised to slay him before another day had passed.
Now God reciprocated. God had watched Elijah's boldness, heard the murderous promise and felt Elijah's torn soul. He sent an angel, twice. And, after forty days of Divine assisted travel, he met God on Mt Sinai hearing ... a gentle whisper. (1 Kings 19:12c).
The Last Word:
The call may have been terrifying, but you finished it well - God meets His warriors with affection and attention, listen for His gentle whisper. it's there.
The full story of Elijah's courage and call is found in 1 Kings 17-19
