God lands on earth
Soul Snack 217/10 ... Heaven's Vacancy
"Omnipotence wrapped in the bonds of my own fragile humanity." #
The enormity of this gift formulated in eternity defies my apprehension and still eludes this world it is given to. A vacancy in heaven now and a manger filled from heaven explains that first Christmas.
but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness. (Phil 2:7)
Universally clothed in this annual festival of goodwill and grace are Heaven's unseen abilities -- the ability to selflessly and literally reach down through the very darkness of space to gift light and life to earth.
Yet, in this celebration of an empty and self giving heaven I have transmuted this divine generosity to a festival of indulgence, ignoring its purpose while still priming myself for the next societal celebration of self-seeking revelry - New Year.
This frail new born, captive in a humble animal food receptacle, is unashamedly and annually replaced by a fullsome red figure speaking no-sense with jolly ho-hos.
This vacancy in heaven snatches at my attention yet again but escapes my times. So easily "omnipotence wrapped in the bonds of my own fragile humanity" flees my family and misses my senses.
The manger in Bethlehem, this insignificant landing pad of God on earth shouts -- seek the simple, enjoy (even encounter) the elusive, but be sure to honour The Humble.
"Omnipotence wrapped in the bonds of my own fragile humanity" empties the full and fills the empty.
Since that 1st Christmas it has:
- irrevocably reversed the future of fragile humanity,
- irrevocably reversed the focus of a troubled present to an untroubled future,
- so sadly eluded almost all.
"Omnipotence wrapped in the bonds of my own fragile humanity" wanted me and has never sought to elude me. This is Heaven's reason for its vacancy two millenia ago.
