God elevates purity

Soul Snack 9/81 ... Pens & Palaces

Pimples prominently raised on this ruddy youthful face, no razor had yet caressed his skin, and innocent freshness remained in all his relationships.

Unassumedly he tended his father's flock with life-endangering diligence.

This youth would fight bears and lions. Wolves would be scatttered. No challenge to his flock would be permitted.

A heart of pure intention, a body filled with courage and a mind given to faithfulness God would always see. No man could see into this shepherd's heart - but soon he would be raised. Soon he would be tending a far larger and far more recalcitrant flock with much more hardened enemies.

He was to become Israel's second king.

He chose David his servant
and took him from the sheep pens; from tending the sheep he brought him
to be the shepherd of his people Jacob,
of Israel his inheritance. Ps 78:70-71

God moves men of purity from sheep pens and places them in palaces.
