Finding Good in God
Every second of every day, at the point of any suffering God's marketing arm is found wanting. Until the good Lord returns each new day continues as 'Groundhog Day' for Him.
It is a task of moral and intellectual laziness, a simpler choice to make - that God is bad or impotent, not good and all powerful.
A world awash in evil and under the wicked spell of suffering does battle with a God of goodness, of love. This is the fight of faith. It is the heart's cry for a soul settling assurance.
In 1873 the blind Fanny Crosby penned an inspiring hymn Blessed Assurance . Fanny could 'see' God's goodness despite all her outward evidence.
Unable to see God's glad written words for her steady and trusting faith, Fanny Crosby wrote a hymn about them instead.
She captured exactly the spirit of what our Lord Himself wrote in the Bible:
- I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself. (Psalm 89:2)
- Praise be to God who has not rejected my prayer or withheld His love from me (Psalm 66:20)
- The Lord God gives power and strength to His people (Psalm 68:15b)
- Praise be to the Lord, to God our savior, who daily bears our burdens (Psalm 68:19)
Dr Neil Anderson is right:
Never doubt in darkness what God has shown you in the light.
